Now I am by far nothing close to being an art critic but that doesn't mean that I can't formulate my own opinions about certain art pieces.
I went to the exhibition I blogged about previously and this is what occurred:
I arrived on time, which meant I was an hour early to the event, I was greeted by a nice lady who works in the administration and she called me in to meet the artist, I was excited and expected to converse with said artist about her thoughts on the matter at hand: the exhibition of her work. But instead I was met with a half-hearted nod and a murmured greeting. I sensed some fakeness lingering in the air but I swished it away and carried on waiting for the opening of the ceremony.
The ceremony began a little after 7 p.m. We all headed upstairs to see the art work.
Here's the Art Critic part:
None of the work was too complicated and nothing really needed explanation, and none of the pieces moved me. I commited a "bad blogger" move and forgot to bring my camera along so I scanned a few pieces from the booklet. I invite you all to tell me your opinions about the following pieces:
I liked this piece because it had little trinkets and odd objects linked to the past
This doesn't do much for me but I still like the feeling it gives out
This piece was an instant favorite, it embodies nostalgia
This made more sense to me when I learned that the artist has a background in working with makeup. It was interesting to me because I admired it to some extent then went straight to disliking it.

The Theme was not consistent, one moment it was about bursting female emotions and then suddenly it was about The UAE's heritage. I deduced that my reasons for disliking this exhibition is because this is not what I am after; artists from the UAE are starting to form a new type of art that is far from cliched techniques and redundant concepts, the new art is fresh and different and that is what I am pursuing.
Please feel free to share your ideas with me about the exhibition and well everything else.
No offense to the artist, I did in fact admire her skill and work but it is simply not my type.

well, i wasn't there and it's hard to say based on some photo scans "we all do mistakes, 3adi :)", but i only liked the first piece, i don't know, maybe because there was no theme binding all pieces, the fairy and the girl with big hair looks overused for me, i don't mean to offense anyone am just saying what i think based on what i saw, thanks for sharing this, am glad this blog is getting back :)
